Separation Anxiety:

He gets anxiety when he’s separated from any adult that he’s emotionally attached to. He fears terrible things will happen to them if they’re out of his sight. Some days are worse than others.

Dysthymic Disorder:

A chronic type of depression. He does not want to kill himself and is afraid of death, but he does not feel joy in life or have any interest in anything.

Selective Mutism:

This one developed a while before he came in contact with the daegra and is not a result of being possessed by one. He won’t speak most of the time, but he will occasionally answer people in monosyllables. (Such as: Yes, No, Mmhm, Why, What.) When asked for his name, he will reply that his name is Keiran, because he doesn’t want anyone to call him by his number. He also doesn’t know how to read or write which makes communicating a bit harder.

Personality:

-Discreet: A habit developed when he was an “apprentice”, Keiran, when he speaks, will choose his words extremely carefully. He will also be very careful in his actions. Mostly, he prefers to avoid conflict with others, especially if they’re bigger and tougher than he is.

-Responsible/Conscientious: Keiran is responsible in that if you give him a job to do, he’s very dependable and will get it done in a timely manner. He has good work ethic and is very detail oriented. He’s also responsible in that if he did something wrong, he will hold himself accountable for it and not put the blame on someone else.

-Dependent/Low Self Esteem: He isn’t very sure of himself and puts himself down a lot. He doesn’t believe he’s smart or capable of things that he actually is capable of. Because of this mindset, for things that he believes he will fail at he will fail because he won’t try very hard. Making mistakes is one of Keiran’s worst fears, so if he thinks that he won’t be good at something, he will depend on others to do it for him or with him.

-Distrustful: Keiran is a wary person and likes to test the waters before he slowly lowers himself in. Even when he’s in the metaphorical water, he will cling to the wall for a while, prepared to pull himself back out at any sign of danger. He lacks trust in himself, people, situations, and places.  

-Loyal: When you do get his trust, though, Keiran will stick to you like glue and would do anything for you within reason.

History:

Keiran was the youngest in a family of seven children. It was a lot of mouths to feed, and both his mother and father had to work to support them all. When his father lost his job, they were unable to provide for all of their children. They refused to allow their family to starve, so Keiran’s parents began to discuss giving away half of their children as “Pauper Apprentices.”

(These types of apprentices were popular in the Victorian Era. Abandoned and Orphaned children were often taken to be “apprenticed” so that they wouldn’t cause trouble on the streets. Unfortunately, these children would often be abused by their masters and didn’t get paid much or anything at all.)

Keiran was the first of his siblings to be sent off as an apprentice. The person overseeing his “apprenticeship” was an Englishman called “Mr. Beasley”, who was a friend of an acquaintance of Keiran’s father. Keiran’s dad was assured that Mr. Beasley was a good person, but Mr. Beasley did not intend on treating Keiran well or paying him. He just wanted more hands and cheap labor on his farm.  

When Mr. Beasley finally came to take Keiran away, it took a good 30 minutes to get Keiran onto the carriage. He clung onto his mother with all his might and when his father finally wrenched him away from her, Keiran managed thrice to wriggle free back to his mother. Then, when they finally got him into the carriage, he would try to jump out. In the end, they had to restrain him, and Keiran screamed and cried until he lost his voice. As they made their way across the sea to England, Keiran resigned himself to the fact that he’d probably never see his mother, father, or siblings ever again.

Once at the farm, Keiran wouldn’t speak. Mr. Beasley thought it was no matter and jokingly said to his friends, “Well, now I don’t have to hear any complaints or that awful Irish accent,” which made Keiran even more reluctant to say anything.

Thankfully, there were many older servants in the house who were happy to dote on Keiran and treat him well. There was one old woman in particular, a Scottish woman named Freya, who Keiran took a liking to and followed around when he could.

Unfortunately, the older woman couldn’t protect Keiran from all of the punishments that he ended up receiving. He was told that he was receiving them because he wasn’t doing his work or that he gave Mr. Beasley a filthy look, but Keiran knew that it was mostly because he was Irish. One night, after a particularly painful lashing, Keiran laid awake in bed and a daegra, attracted to his physical pain, possessed him.

The pain almost immediately went away but was replaced by an overwhelming anxiety for Freya. The only way the anxiety was quelled was if Keiran was in the same room as her, and he would also have tantrums if anyone tried to take him away from her. He wouldn’t even sleep unless they were in the same room.

It was a pain, but it wasn’t completely unmanageable. Keiran could still manage to get his work done so long as the woman was nearby.

When the woman died, Keiran was inconsolable. He couldn’t sleep, he cried constantly, and when he ate, he just vomited it back up. After Keiran puked all over Mr. Beasley’s shoes, the man had had enough and sent him to Godsglaow Asylum.

Current Level/Abilities: 

Power: Plant Manipulation

Ability I: Accelerated Plant Growth- The ability to make plants grow quickly. He cannot create plants from thin air and there must be seeds or plants present for the power to work. Initially, he must touch what he wants to grow and must have contact with it until he’s satisfied with how much it’s going to grow. There’s a bit of lag in this ability, so he must break contact at the right moment.

        Tier 1- He can make plants that are at least somewhat grown, such as a tree sapling or even an adult tree, grow even more. The growth is quick and obvious.

        Tier 2- He can make plants that are still seeds grow. If he wants control over the number of plants and what plants he grows, it’s best if he starts off actually holding the seeds. His range when touching the dirt is all seeds within an 8 foot radius (whether they are already somewhat grown or still just a seed).

        Tier 3- His range when touching the dirt expands to a 12 foot radius. He can also now control what part of a grown plant grows. So if he wants a branch of a tree to grow, only that branch will grow.

Ability II: Matter Surfing using Flower Petals- The ability to ride on flower petals like it’s a magic carpet, essentially. It can only be done if there’s enough flowers around. He can only take one passenger.

        Tier 1- He can “magic carpet” himself around and get maybe 5 feet off the ground. He can only use this ability for ten minutes, maximum. He can give one other person a ride too, but the height he can get to is only 3 feet and the time he can do it for shrinks to 5 minutes. Maximum speed is about 10 mph.

    Tier 2- He can get 12 feet off the ground and use the ability for 15 minutes, maximum. With a passenger, he can get 10.5 feet off the ground and use the ability for 12.5 minutes maximum. Fastest speed is about 15 mph.

    Tier 3- He can get 15 feet off the ground and fly for 20 minutes, maximum. With a passenger, it’s the same amount. He can travel at 25 mph in bursts but he can hold a speed of 18 mph.


Ability III: 

Fairy Ring- Keiran grows a ring of mushrooms that release spores on his command, which entice enemies to enter into the ring. Once the enemy is in the ring, the mushrooms release a second set of spores on Keiran’s command that paralyze and disorient the enemy for a time, allowing the others to either get away easily or to attack it easily. Each ring is only good for a one time use. Once the second set of spores has been released, Keiran can make another ring right away if he wants/needs to. Of course, he can only make another ring if it’s within the limit of how many he can do at that tier.      

        Tier I- The ring is only capable of trapping one enemy and the spores’ effects only last for 5 minutes. Keiran can only use this ability twice in a day.

        Tier II- The ring is capable of trapping two enemies and the spores’ effects last for 10 minutes. Keiran can use this ability three times in a day.

    Tier III- The ring is capable of trapping two enemies and the spores’ effects last for 15 minutes. Keiran can use this ability four times in a day.
